Business Valuation Services in Vancouver & Ontario

A business valuation establishes the defensible fair market value of a company or its shares — the foundation for resolving a dispute or making a major decision with confidence. As Chartered Business Valuators (CBVs), we prepare independent, objective valuation reports that stand up to scrutiny in negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and court.

We work with family law lawyers, commercial litigators, business owners, and their advisors across British Columbia and Ontario.

When you need a business valuation

  • Separation or divorce, where family assets include a business interest
  • Shareholder, partnership, or oppression disputes
  • Corporate reorganizations and estate freezes
  • Estate planning, succession, and the transfer of a family business
  • The purchase or sale of a business
  • Mergers and acquisitions (M&A)
  • Shareholder agreements that require an independent valuation

What you receive

Depending on the level of assurance and scope of review required, we issue a Calculation, Estimate, or Comprehensive Valuation Report, each prepared in accordance with the standards of the CBV Institute. We explain which level fits your matter and budget before we begin, and we remain available to support the report through to expert testimony if the matter proceeds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is fair market value?
The highest price available in an open and unrestricted market between informed, prudent parties acting at arm's length, expressed in cash. It is the standard basis for valuations in most litigation and tax contexts.
What's the difference between a Calculation, Estimate, and Comprehensive Valuation Report?
They differ in the scope of review and corroboration performed, and therefore in the level of assurance. A Calculation Report involves the least review and a Comprehensive Report the most. The right level depends on what's at stake and how the report will be used.
How long does a business valuation take?
It varies with the complexity of the business and how quickly complete information is provided. We give a time and cost estimate at the outset and update it if the scope changes.
Can you act as a joint expert?
Yes. We are frequently retained jointly by both parties in family law matters to provide a single, independent valuation, which can reduce cost and narrow the issues in dispute.
